You made it!
6 weeks of “I’m bored!” and “Muuuuuum, can I have another ice-cream?”, but now you’re on the home straight!
The kids are back at school next week - for a short while looking smart and pristine in their new uniforms, but why should they have all the fun?
We’re all a little bit guilty of Competitive Mum Syndrome (I know I am!), however there’s nothing wrong with starting off the new school year by putting your best foot forward and turning up to those school gates in a new outfit!
Even though there’s a good chance that by the second week of September I’ll be back to dashing out the door having barely brushed my hair, when it comes to the first day of term I’ll be dropping the boys off at nursery looking like I’ve just stepped out of the salon and rocking the latest pieces from the S.W.A.L.K. collection!
When you’ve got little ones, your clothes need to be comfortable and practical – running after toddlers in a pencil skirt isn’t exactly easy! However, the fact that you now require all your clothes to be stretchy and come in a colour that hides sticky handprints doesn’t mean that you need to sacrifice style.
I’ve handpicked for you my favourite yummy mummy pieces from S.W.A.L.K.’s collection of independent European brands which will ensure that you look completely together on Monday morning (even when you realise you’ve forgotten one of their lunchboxes and were up until 2pm sewing name tags on PE kits…)
If there’s an essential part of the “mum uniform”, it’s the skinny jean. I constantly rave about these Erin skinny mid-waist jeans by ICHI (seen here in medium blue), but seriously – they’re a game changer! Comfy, stretchy & stylish – you can’t go wrong!
Nothing says “fun mum” more than a flamingo print tee! A printed t-shirt makes your outfit look like more of a, well, “outfit” than a plain one, and I just love this cute 100% organic cotton version from ARMEDANGELS.
As a mum, prints are your friend! This slouchy grey & khaki floral pattern sweater by NUMPH has a really cool sporty vibe and is so easy to throw on with your skinny jeans and a pair of trainers.
The unpredictable British weather means that even though it’s not yet really autumn, sometimes you could still do with a coat. I wear my lightweight drape parachute parka jacket by BELLFIELD all the time – it is so practical, but the fabric gives it a really luxe feel and look. It’s got big pockets for all of those confiscated fidget spinners, and the hood comes in handy for when the heavens open, but you’ve got two pairs of hands to hold as you cross the road!
Last but by no means least – the bag. It needs to be big enough to carry around all of your “mum stuff” (take a look at our blog here to see what our stylists keep in their handbags) and have a strap so that you can go “hands free”. This beige woven leather effect bag by SILVIAN HEACH is perfect. It comes with a long strap so you can wear it across the body and has an internal zip compartment and two pockets so you can always find your purse!! And it looks good… (Also available in tan).
