It’s the holiday Holy Grail - a capsule wardrobe.
Who hasn’t been there? The night before you fly, lying on top of your suitcase to keep it closed while your other half wrestles with the zip (No? Just me?). When you’re super nice to the woman at check-in because you know your luggage is at least 2 kilos overweight and you don’t want to pay an excess baggage fee.
And of course, after you’ve dragged 22 kilos across two time zones you don’t even wear half of it.
Every year you promise to yourself that you’ll do it differently – that you’ll only pack exactly what you need; that you’ll only take items that you can easily transform from day to night by swapping your flip flops for heels and adding a bit of bling.
But then you just can’t resist including that strappy sundress dress that you never get to show off in the UK, and another couple of t-shirts, just in case. And some nice shoes – there might be a fancy restaurant you want to go to…
Stop! Packing a capsule wardrobe for your holiday that gives you an outfit for every occasion is possible!
We’ve asked our in-house stylists to give us their top picks for a guaranteed sub-20Kg suitcase full of stylish outfits for your beach break – just add sun cream!
THE BIG BAG
A quick win is to use your beach bag as your carry-on – this saves valuable suitcase space and means that you don’t have a bag that you’re not using hanging around your hotel room for the whole holiday.
The interior zip compartment in this nautical themed tote by Smash also keeps your valuables secure when you’re sightseeing!
The Big Bag
A maxi-dress, such as this navy dress with a subtle animal print from ICHI, should be a staple of your capsule beach wardrobe.
Throw over a bikini and wear with your flip flops during the day, then in the evening add wedges, chunky jewellery and a clutch bag for a sophisticated beach bar vibe.
A pair of jeans or trousers (like these smart but chic ones from Armed Angels) in a neutral colour (white / black / beige / navy) will give you plenty of options.
They’ll look fab with a variety of tops in different colours and styles, such as cold shoulder, flowy or cami.
You can’t go wrong with this cream & gold t-shirt from Silvian Heach– wear it over a swimsuit on the beach, team with shorts when sightseeing and just add heels and skinny jeans for a relaxed but luxe night time look!
When comes to summer holidays, shorts are always a good choice as they’re lightweight, cool and easy to pack. Really easy to dress up or down, they look great paired with a bikini, vest or sexy top for the evening.
Take two pairs to allow you to mix & match – one in a neutral shade and another in a bright colour, like this sexy pair from Lavand.
THE LITTLE BAG
When the sun sets all you need is your phone, your lipstick and enough Euros to keep you in cocktails – it’s time to swap that beach bag for a jazzy little clutch.
This teal-coloured bag from Lavand is perfect – big enough for all your essentials and bright enough to add a pop of colour to your evening outfits.
The Little Bag
Jumpsuits make dressing for warmer weather seem as easy as pie. They’re incredibly comfortable and versatile – and they look fantastic when worn with a big summer hat or a chic straw fedora, accessories which give your look an elegant edge.
This navy zip jumpsuit from Moutaki will perfectly showcase your glow after a day spent in the sun!
